The CE marking process is an integral undertaking for every manufacturing business.
Getting a product or machinery approved and compliant with Machinery Directive indicates that the product is of the highest standard. It means that a product works according to its advertised purpose and its claims are indeed proven. A product of machine with a CE mark is deemed safe to use.
What is the CE Mark?
The CE Mark is a symbol that validates a product or machine's compliance to the Machinery Directive, as imposed by the Supply of Machinery Safety Regulations.
CE marking a machinery is enforced throughout the European Free Trade Area.
The General Principles of CE Marking
- Only the manufacturer is allowed to add the CE mark on to its product/s
- The CE marking should only be affixed on products which are compliant to directives as approved by Community harmonisation legislation.
- Upon affixing of the CE mark on a product, its manufacturer accepts full responsibility on the product's compliance and conformity to to directives.
- The CE marking is the only proof of the product's conformity according to the requirements of the relevant Community harmonisation legislation providing for its affixing.
- Markings, signs or inscriptions that are misleading regarding the meaning or form of the CE mark is prohibited.
- Member states should be responsible for enforcing the directives regarding CE marking.
The CE Marking Procedure
- Decide which directives are applicable to your product.
- Ensure that your product is compliant with the applicable directives.
- Compile and retain a technical file, which satisfies the requirements of the directives.
- Write and sign a Declaration of Conformity, which has a format which satisfies the requirements of the applicable directives, and keep the original with the technical file.
- Apply CE marking to the equipment in accordance with the requirements of the directive.
- For series manufacture, document the internal measures that will be implemented to ensure that all manufactured machinery remains in conformity with the provisions of the Directive.
